COVID-19 parent Guidelines

OVERVIEW
We are committed to providing our MOPS community with as much clarity and information as possible about the year to come. In order to ensure a successful MOPPETS program together, we know it is important that our community works toward a mutual understanding of expectations we have of one another. The COVID-19 health emergency is a fluid situation with rapidly changing information and guidance. In addition to ongoing open and clear communication, here are current measures you can expect from us.

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES
These arrival procedures are the best practices currently. Please note that they may change.
  • The Childcare Coordinator will ask the caregivers to respond to Daily Intake Questions upon arrival to ensure that they (and their family group) are free of all COVID-19 signs and symptoms. Caregivers will also have done a self-health check for themselves and their family group prior to their arrival. If they or a member of their family has symptoms, they will be required by law to stay home.
  • All families will respond to Daily Intake Questions upon arrival at MOPPETS to ensure that their child does not pose a risk for transmission. We are asking families to self-check their entire family group prior to coming to MOPPETS. Children need to be kept home until all family members meet the CDC criteria to discontinue home isolation.
  • Temperatures will only be taken with a no-contact thermometer if a fever is suspected. Children will be sent home with a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher.
  • Please use one of the pens from the "clean pen" box or bring your own to sign your child in for each meeting. After the intake questions, your child will receive a small dab of hand sanitizer, or if you prefer, the child may immediately wash their hands with soap and water in the classroom sink.
  • Please hang your child's bag on one of the hooks located outside of the classroom. All personal items should be labeled and kept in their book bag to ensure that personal items are kept separate from others.
  • Please lovingly and confidently say goodbye to your child at the classroom door.
  • Masks for visiting adults are suggested when on campus, but not mandatory. Please practice social distancing at all times.

HEALTH AND SANITATION MEASURES
  • Children will wash their hands with soap and water before and after snack, before and after their playground time, and after bathroom use. They will also receive a squirt of hand sanitizer upon arrival and before going home.
  • Whenever possible, the classrooms will be ventilated by opening windows and/or doors.
  • Caregivers will wear disposable gloves when handling food or assisting a child in the restroom.
  • All caregivers will wear masks in the classroom (except for snack and story time when the children can be socially distanced from them). The Santa Barbara County Health Department recommends face coverings for children over the age of two years.
  • During playground time, caregivers may remove their masks except when in close contact with a child.
  • We will continue to teach children to avoid contact with one's eyes, nose and mouth, to use tissue to wipe their nose and to cough/sneeze inside their elbow.
  • High touch surfaces such as sink knobs, toilet handles, tables, and door handles will be cleaned and sanitized throughout the day.
  • We will have multiple toys and manipulatives accessible that are easy to clean and sanitize throughout the day. We have ensured that toys that are difficult to clean have either been removed from the classroom or will be carefully monitored for use by individual children only.
  • Children will receive gentle reminders to space themselves out but will still be allowed to play together as we believe social emotional development is a very important component of their development.
